ROY TALAHAFTEWA, (1955 - ), Hopi silversmith born in Shungopovi, Arizona. Roy was educated in California where he graduated high school. He then attended the Institute of American Indian Art but did not graduate. He returned to Arizona, moving to Phoenix where he spent the next twenty or so years raising a family and developing his silversmithing talents. He did silver work for several businesses in the Phoenix area and in 1981 his career took off when one of his pieces won "Best of Show" at the prestigious Heard Museum Native American Art Exhibit. Roy has since gone on to win national recognition for his creations in silver and his jewelry has become very collectible.
